what is the axis of symmetry of the parabola given by the equation y= 3(x+9)^2 - 12?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look inside that parenthesis (x+9) the axis of symmetry is on the x postion where (x+9) = 0 so the axis of symmetry x=-9 because (-9+9) = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! so thats all you do for the axis of symmetry.. in the prntesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for quadratic functions, find what value for x makes the parenthesis 0
