25% of what is 13?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25 percent is .25 .25 multiplied by some number equals 13 in other words .25x = 13, where x is "some number" what would you do to find the number now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by the 13 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, well, you want to find 25 percent of a number for instance, 25 percent of 100 is, well, 25. but you don't know if it's 100, 1000, or any number. you just know it's 25 percent of some number. so, written with math it would read: .25x because .25 is 25% in decimal form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make any sense yet?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

It's actually a proportion \[\frac{ 25 }{ 100 } = \frac{ 13 }{ x }\] cross multiply and solve for 'x'

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Because this is asking....25% of WHAT number....is 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's 52

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right...52 is correct! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks guys

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

No problem :)
