About your question: few decades ago, most of relationships ran on that way because of the parents' right culture.Now, that kind of relationship decreases. (Just 50-60% ).But violence increases.The conflict between mother in law and daughter in law causes the break up. !! ?? Yes, the reason to divorce is too nonsense like that, but it's true. Mother in law interferes to everything, controls everything (including the couple's bed time).

OK, so this was an arranged marriage. She enjoyed her freedom and parties where she is the center of attention. She is beautiful, knows she is, and likes to use her looks as a weapon to get men to do what she wants. But her arranged marriage was sort of going backwards for her. Instead of going forwards, into a glamorous life, she is back in something more average.

Instead of steps back, we say "going backwards" or "losing ground."
