6a^2-2ab-15b^2
you want to factor it?
This isn't going t be easily factorable :(
yes factor completely someone gave me the answer i just dont know how they got it
was it: 6a^2 + b(-2a - 15b) ? or: 6(a- b/6)^2 - (91b^2 / 6)
no its (a+3b)(a-5b)
how u get the term 6a^2 with (a+3b)(a-5b)
yeah, i think your forgot about the 6
you*
GCF and break down
sorry the 6 was a typo the problem is a^2-2ab-15b^2
ah okay, that's easier then. basically, start by finding two numbers which MULTIPLY to -15 but ADD to get -2
thats 5 &-3
actually it's -5 and 3
be careful with your signs
ok i see it... ive always had a problem with signs
thank you
np
just remember you wanted -2 in this case. not 2. -5 + 3 = -2, while 5 - 3 = 2
ok but what about the A's and B's
\[\large a^2-2ab-15b^2\] what two numbers multiply to give you -15 but add to give you -2?\[\large -5 \ \text{and} \ 3\]\[\large a^2 -2ab -15b^2 = (a-5b)(a+3b)\]
\[6a ^{2}-2ab-15b ^{2}=6[(a ^{2}-2ab+b ^{2})-b ^{2}-\frac{ 15 }{ 6 }b ^{2}]\] \[=6[\left( a-b \right)^{2}-\frac{ 21 }{ 6 }b ^{2}]\] \[=6[\left( a-b \right)^{2}-\frac{ 7 }{2 }b ^{2}]\]\[=6[\left( a-b \right)^{2}-\left( \frac{ \sqrt{7}b }{\sqrt{2} } \right)^{2}]\] \[=6\left( a-b+\sqrt{\frac{ 7 }{ 2 }}b \right)\left( a-b-\sqrt{\frac{ 7 }{2 }}b \right)\]
Or you could use the quadratic formula couldn't you?...
\[i incorrectly taken 6a ^{2}-12ab-15b ^{2}\]
