Can anyone tell me if A is the correct answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

28.26/3.14 gievs you radius^2.. A=pir^2.. so r^2=9 r=3 diameter=2r=2*3=6

OpenStudy (yrelhan4):

Should be B..

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Area of a circle = \[A=\pi r^2\]Diameter is twice the radius, or \(d = 2*r\) which means \(r = d/2\) Substitute in the area formula: \[A = \pi (\frac{d}{2})^2 = \frac{\pi}{4}d^2\]We know that \[A=28.26\] so we can rearrange the formula to give \(d\) \[\frac{4A}{\pi}=d^2\]\[d = \sqrt{\frac{4A}{\pi}}\]Plug in the numbers...

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Just eyeballing it, I'd say "area is 28, divide that by pi (a bit more than 3) is 9, square root of 9 is 3, and that's the radius so we double it for the diameter and get 6"

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Proficiency estimating the area of circles is quite useful when deciding whether buying 2 medium pizzas or 1 large is a better deal :-)

So B is the correct answer!!! Thanks a lot!!!
