President truman's chief priority in using the atomic bomb against japan was to ?
i think save American lives.
It was a big factor in ending the war. President Truman feared that if he did not drop the bomb, they would have to have a frontal invasion of Japan, and would lose many American lives. The bomb was an alternative to this because he believed that it would end the war by devastating the cities. (But, you should also keep in mind that Truman and his advisors were also motivated by the idea that they could be a big global power if everyone knew they had the bomb. It would give them a bargaining advantage with other countries.)
