The weight, in pounds, of 6 small dogs is sixteen, twenty, seventeen, sixteen, seventeen, sixteen. A somewhat overweight dog joins them. The new dog weighs twenty-eight pounds. Which measure of central tendency is not affected by placing this new dog into the group? Mean Median Mode None of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mode is not affected. Mode is the number that appears the most frequently.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is the mode?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. The mean is the average and the overweight dog will cause the average to increase (slightly). The median is the number that is, well in the middle when you arrange the numbers from least to greatest. If there are an even number of terms you average them. Mode is simply the number that appears most frequently. In this case, the mode is sixteen. It remains sixteen even after the new dog is added to the group.

If the dog were to way 17, then we would have two modes and your list would be bimodal. That would change the mode.

okay thank you very much :)
