What does it mean when scientists say that living organisms share a universal genetic code?
universal genetic code means the code is responsible for synthesis of the same protien in every organism.
this means that AUG codes for methionine in bacteria fungi vertebrates plants etc etc..every organism..(though there r a few exceptions for some codons)
