2. What is a polarizing filter? What benefits does one have for photographs?

Might want to ask in either art or, if it is digital photography, perhaps computer science. Polarization, think about your magnetic poles. They are either positive or negative. Well, there is a similar thing with light, how it goes in different directions. To polarize light is to limit the directions it travels. This can be used to shoot through a reflection and not capture the reflection, but rather the object on the other side.
