A trapezoid is drawn on a grid with vertices at P (-5, 7), Q (-2, 7), R (2, 3), and S (-8, 3). Trapezoid UVWX will be drawn similar to Trapezoid PQRS with side WX corresponding to side RS. The point (8, -4) will be the location of vertex W and point (-12, -4) will be the location of point X.

In mathematics, similar refers to a difference in size, or scale. It does not matter if two shapes have been rotated, mirrored, even reflected, so long as the fundamental difference is limited to size. I think you would find this helpful to draw out on a piece of graph paper. They give you one shape, one corresponding side, and two points. You can use the points WX and RS to get a ratio of scale between the two shapes. Once you have your ratio you can apply it to each of the remaining sides.
