OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

combine your like terms, so -2d + 3d and then add that to 8

OpenStudy (chelseatheruler):

8 + 1d I think.

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

@bakonloverk i already did that

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

thats all you do, its an expression

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

oh lol sorry i meant something else

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

would it be 8+5d after?

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

nope 8+1d

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

um...do explain?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

would i subtract 3d from each side?

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

-2d + 3d is 1d so the answer is 8 + 1d

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

alright thankyou :)

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

your welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait, do you understand now?

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

no not really|dw:1371511792042:dw|

OpenStudy (jenniferjuice):

@Charlievicky

OpenStudy (bakonloverk):

since its an expression theres not a real answer, so to solve an expression you have to simplify it, combine all of your like terms Ex. 2y + 4 + 4y + 8 you would combine your like terms, 2y + 4y which would equal 6y and then you combine the other like terms 4 + 8 which equals 12 so the simplified version of this expression is 6y + 12 since there is no equal sign, you cant solve for y so 6y + 12 would be your answer
