a cake has a radius of 4 inches and is 4 inches deep, what is the area of the cake?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The cake is shaped like a cylinder. The area of each circular base is AC = (pi)r^2, where r is the radius of the base The lateral area is AL = 2(pi)rh, where h is the height of the cylinder The total surface area is SA = (pi)r^2 + (pi)r^2 + 2(pi)rh ( (pi)r^2 appears twice because of the two bases of a cylinder) SA = 2(pi)r^2 + 2(pi)rh
