how do i find a missing coordinate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Depends on what you are given.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says If R(2,5) is the midpoint of ST and the coordinates of T are (-1,8) find the coordinate of S @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/midpoint.htm does this help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry. its probably in there, but i just dont understand which one should be used. @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so it is (x1+x2)/2 , (y1+y2)/2 ^ coordinant x of midpoint ^ y coordinate of mid point except you know the midpoint coordinates. SO you must solve for the endpoint. (x1+x2)/2= xm xm for x-midpoint 2*xm=x1+x2 and 2*ym=y1+y2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your mid point is 2,5 and an end point is -1,8 --- lets do x first 2*xm=x1+x2 2*(2)=x1+(-1) -> 4=x1-1 -> x1=5 so now you have 5,y can you find y ^ that is mid point ^ here is end point x which is -1. You could have also plugged it into x1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh gosh. i dong under stand ㅠ.ㅠ @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2*xm-x1=x2 and 2*ym-y1=y2 Just use the formula xm,ym is mid point 2,5 x1,y1 is -1,8 just plug in :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay lemme try @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would x2 be? @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x2 is the x cooridate of your answer x2,y2 which is point S :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be 5? @timo86m thats what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x2 is 5 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay okayy now i got 5,2 am i right? @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANK YOU@ @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for medal. Fan me if you dont mind :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha you dont have to fan me:P i just use this site for help ^^ @timo86m

OpenStudy (anonymous):
