u have 5 coins, after tossing what is the "expected" number of heads??? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your expected to get heads 2 and a half times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what they mean by "expected" ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if i had 6 coins?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then your expected to get heads 3 times. Half the time your expected heads, half tails. 6 coins. half will be heads, so 3 heads.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, one more question...i can get for example 5 head and 1 tail this is expected too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not expected that you get 5 heads. Its possible, but we expect the most probable scenario to happen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which is that you get 2.5 heads. (which sounds ridiculous)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you add up all the possibilities, you will see that getting 5 heads and 1 tail, is canceled out by the fact you could equally get 5 tails and 1 head. 3 heads 2 tails is cancelled by 3 tails 2 heads.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"most probable scenario to happen"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank u very much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is only the case since all the possibilities have even probability in this case.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can you calculate the expected number of heads, simply find out the probability on what no. of heads you actually want, on the other hand the expected no. could be 5 if all heads come.
