I wouldn't say that modern society was a "Golden Age" for the fact that we aren't in our prime as a country. When everything is perfect and without corruption, like the economy, then we will be able to call this the Golden Age. We are also just advancing in all fields at all times, so will there ever be a Golden Age?

But the Islamic Golden age was possible because the ruler of the empire was able to expand, control and maintain. Once he was able to do all that, he got respect, honor, and land, and with all that, was able to make a better society.

And the major achievements were the amount of land they conquered, the new laws that made society better, and the spread of thier religion as well.

intellectual achievements
medical, technological and/or scientific contributions
economics
politics
social developments and/or humanitarian efforts

japan is wayyy better off compared to anyother country right now.
