It says to simplify the expression: 5-6p+3p-8/3 I'm confused

I know how to work out the top part. But dividing it by the bottom confuses me

Okay well its just simplifying it so you wont have the evaluate the whole thing. and one of the last steps is diving and distributing. and when you do that you have a 3 for the numerator and 3 in the denominator so they cancel out. 3(-p-1) ________ 3 then youre left with -p-1 or -1-p
