Can anyone identify this unknown from just this picture and the fact that this stuff smells really bad? Not a good example of a streak plate, I am just learning to do this stuff on my own. Thanks! Not a good example of a streak plate! http://i.imgur.com/417iy1s.jpg P.S. If you can't identify, what key characteristics would you use to describe it? I feel very unsure of myself when describing these so far.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

are those cells, or maybe just agar?

thomaster (thomaster):

Oke i guess this is plated on nutrient agar? The streaking on this place is done very poorly. The goal is to get individual colonies, on this place there are no individual colonies. I guess the colonies are circular and raised/convex/pulvinate. The margin is entire. I cannot guarantee that this is correct because you'd need free colonies for that. The colonies are medium sized and cream colored. If the colonies smell really bad i think it's a Pseudomonas aeruginosa, they have a very characterizing smell.

thomaster (thomaster):

you would need a platingon blood agar and CLED to be more sure about the characterization of colonies. Also micromorphology is very usefull aswel as different tests.
