Why do we have special power operator ** in python ? Just like in other langauges, ^ is not used.

the ^ IS used in some laguages, java and c++ to name two popular ones ^ is the XOR operater in the two languages above, and if I am guessing right then ^ is also an XOR in python

FORTRAN used ** because punched cards didn't have a more suitable character.
