What is the graph of the system y = -2x + 3 and 2x + 4y = 8?

OpenStudy (radar):

You will have to graph the two lines. You need two points to construct a line......agree??

OpenStudy (radar):

Here is one method that I find easy. Locate the two intercepts (x and y) for each line and graph it. The point of intersection (if any) will be the solution of the system.

OpenStudy (radar):

I will do the first equation: y = -2x + 3 Let x = 0, then y would have to be 3. One point is (0,3) Now let y = 0, then x would be 1.5, so the second point be (1.5,0). You can have the next line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay ill try

OpenStudy (radar):

Let x = 0 so 4y = 8, y would then be 2, One point is (0,2) Did you get the second point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4,0)?

OpenStudy (radar):

Well let y= 0 and then you see it would set up like this: 2x = 8 Solving for x gives you 4, the second point for the second line is (4,0)

OpenStudy (radar):

Bingo, now on your graph paper using those pair points you can draw the lines.
