For the geometric series 4+20+100+500 what is the value of a3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the sume of the first 3 terms=124

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

i dont thinkk it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a3 should just be the third term, a_3

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe you mean what is the number 3 spaces after 500? because from what i remember a_3 represented the third term of a series. s_3 the summation of the first 3 terms

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm its 100

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

how did u get 100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats what i put first its asking what is the third term of the series which is a sum of numbers with a common ration to each other which 5, multiply 5 by 4 you get 20, then you get 100, then 500

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these numbers are known as the terms and in series they're denoted by by a1, a2, a3 which what they're asking for the 3rd term 100
