Vectors please help?! find 1/2v+3/5w given v(1,6) and w(-5,-2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First scalar multiply them. Then add them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sorry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

scalar multiply?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah you multiply all of the components by the scalar (the coefficient)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for your help..

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

think of your vectors in components you have v = i+6j and w = -5i-2j we need (1/2)(1i+6j)+(3/5)(-5i-2j) do the math and collect like components (1/2)i+3j-3i-(6/5)j -(5/2)i-(9/5)j so your new vector is <-5/2,-9/5>
