I am writing my master capstone and I have found a doctoral dissertation that has very good information in it. How do I cite a dissertation and if I use a cited reference how do I cite it? Thank you
In general, I would not cite the dissertation itself. Rather I would go to his or her sources and cite from those. If you must cite the dissertation, then do it as you would a scholarly article.
On a side note, for any type of scholarly writing, whether it needs to APA or MLA style, I recommend PERLLA. It is an add on that you can try for free for Microsoft Word and then pay for if you like it. As a college student, it has saved me from making several small mistakes that professors would of docked me for such as header formatting, etc. It also makes citations a breeze.
Also, I just checked and it does provide citation guidelines for this type of circumstance, including the many different ways you found the dissertation.
