OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

Solve: | 4x | = |15+x| | 5 | |2y - 1| Select one: a. |5 3| b. |-3 -4| c. | 3 4| d. | -2 5|

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

@jagatuba help please

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

can you take a quick screenshot of the material and show us?

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Sorry, I'm at work and got interrupted. Hmm. I'm missing something I think. -3 and 5 would be the solution to |4x|=|15+x|, but I don't see that as an answer possibility. Like jdoe said maybe a screen shot would help.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

how do i take a screenshot

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

I'm not seeing a relationship between | 4x | = |15+x| and | 5 | |2y - 1|, but my math skills are a little bit rusty I'm ashamed to admit.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

usually tap the PrinsScrn or PrtSc button after the F12 key on the keyboard, then go to say Paint, and paste there

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

The Prt Sc button will copy the screen to the clipboard then paste that into Paint and save the file then attach that file to your response with the attach file button below your response box.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

LOL Yeah what he said.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

thank you for showing me that

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i got my answer it was A

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Now I'm just trying to figure out why it's |5 3| rather than 5 -3

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

i dont even know how 5 got in the answer

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Well if x=5 then 4x=20 and 15+x=20 therefore 4x=15+x. Likewise if x=-3 then |4x|=|-12| or simply 12 and |15+x|=|12| or simply 12.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

However, if x=3 then 4x=12 and 15+3=18, therefore |4x|≠|15+x|.

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

oh ok

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

Where is @mathslover when you need'm?

OpenStudy (jazzyfa30):

I need your help on another problem

mathslover (mathslover):
