MEDAAL AND FAAN! acceptance alliance attendance condense condolence conference defense existence expense experience grievance immense intelligence intense interference nonsense occurrence perseverance remembrance repentance resemblance resistance superintendence vengeance vigilance If the word ends in silent e, drop the e and add the suffix, unless the final e is needed to preserve the sound of the preceding consonant. Which spelling word requires the final e to preserve the sound of the consonant before it?
@A_clan @amistre64 @TuringTest @Preetha @hartnn @Shane_B
what is the suffix you are adding?
any of them: -ance, -ence , -ense
from all the words above from the spelling list
so if we remove the suffixes, what would the root work look like?
we will have the root words..lol
accept\(\cancel{ance}\) accept, same alli\(\cancel{ance}\) ally, changed attend\(\cancel{ance}\) attend, same etc ...
ok..
that should work out for a majority of them, but i see some that have no usual root word
for example: def\(\cancel{ense}\) what is a def as a root word? maybe its from defy
isn't from defy: defied, defying, defies.. wait a sec..
defense is a noun the verb is defensed
that's what they're saying
:) but as far as the instructions go, im not too sure i understand them clearly. not all of the root words in the list require a silent "e" at the end of them; and a silent "e" affects a vowel sound, not a consonant. ton: t-uh-n tone: t-oh-n sit: s-it site: s-eye-t
i didn't understand it clearly too! That's why I need some help! U're totally correct
the answer isn't defense
im sure there are multiple answers from the list.
the longer i stare at this, the less sense the instructions make :) but thats the best i got
they aren't multiple choice! :( what do you think the answer is? @amistre64
