OpenStudy (dls):

I was comparing mine and @genius12 's profile. He has a SS of 191 and mine adds up to 199..my days of studying is also almost double than his, what is causing the difference then?He only has more medals received but I think that change is directly reflected in problem solving and hence isn't counted, strange.

thomaster (thomaster):

SS = smartscore?? i don't know where you got 191 and 199...

OpenStudy (dls):

yes,and add up 64+68+59 and 61+63+75

thomaster (thomaster):

ohh.. I think problem solving counts more in the smartscore formula

thomaster (thomaster):

The smartscore is calculated based on a lot of things. Some of which you can't see in your stats, like activity in the chat (which increases teamwork) He answered twice the amount of questions you have answered and he also has 2,5 times as many medals than you have. Also more fans. His ratio of questions answered/medals for answers is also higher than yours. So I think that's why he has a higher smartscore :P The exact formula for the smartscore is a mystery

OpenStudy (dls):

hmmm..

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I don't know why they would count chat for anything. While you are chatting, you are not helping people... and the few times I have opened them to look, they were largely full of gibberish and troll tracks. Not very useful at all.

thomaster (thomaster):

The chat is where people socialize to get to know eachother better. It's not allways full of trolls and gibberish. It is counted for Teamwork (ability to build relationships, communicate, annd collaborate)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

However, it lets a troll get a higher smart score for being a troll....

thomaster (thomaster):

True, but a troll can also get a higher smartscore for posting offtopic questions or answer questions inappropiately. So it makes no difference. Also, chatting isn't that importand for teamwork so it would take ages to increase your smartscore with only chatting.

OpenStudy (ja1):

I am on the chat alot but my SS doesn't change because of it lol.

mathslover (mathslover):

Check it out : http://openstudy.com/users/numbers She has 75 Engagement Smart Score, but still is at 65 ...

thomaster (thomaster):

@mathslover I think problem solving has more influence on the increase of a smartscore than engagement.

mathslover (mathslover):

Yep thomas, that's what I was trying to say. Problem solving is a lot important and has more influence than Engagement . :)

mathslover (mathslover):

and that's why "Numbers" is at 65 but still having a good engagement score of 75.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

So if you think about getting married a lot, it does not help much.... =P

mathslover (mathslover):

:D Yeah marriage(problem solving) matters a lot than Engagement

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Have to commit!

Parth (parthkohli):

Numbers used to have an engagement of 100.

Parth (parthkohli):

A good example is Mathslover himself. His subscores are no way close to 99, but his SmartScore is.

mathslover (mathslover):

^Yep! Because I am an all rounder ;)
