Eukaryotic cells, and animals, undergo mitosis to divide the nucleus of a cell into two new daughter cells. This usually happens in cells with membrane bound organelles, like human cells. Prokaryotic cells such as bacteria undergo binary fission, which is simply a separation of the body into two new bodies. Usually occurs in cells without membrane bound organelles.
