Solve the equation. Check for extraneous solutions 2|7-7x|=2x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, divide both sides by 2 to isolate the absolute value, then get your answer: |dw:1372185678872:dw| Because the value is absolute, there can be two answers - a negative and a positive: |dw:1372185788210:dw| Therefore, the two answers are 3/2 and 5/8. HOWEVER, you have to check for extraneous solutions. I won't do this part for you, because it is quite simple. Just plug each value in for x, and see what solutions give the same answer on both sides of the equation. The ones that don't work out are extraneous. Hint: one of them will not work. Hope this helped!
