The protist known as an Euglena is sometimes considered an animal-like protist and other times a plant-like protist. Why would scientists classify it as an animal-like protist? A. presence of chlorophyll B. the way it moves C. presence of an eye spot D. none of these Umm I have no idea!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because it is a single cell organism, and has a presence of chlorophyll common to plant life

thomaster (thomaster):

Plant like for the fact that it has chlorophyll I think animal like because it's a single celled, but sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's a plant like protist, it contains chlorophyll and carries out photosynthesis. The eyespots function as a light shield which allows light from a certain direction to strike the light detector.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what Is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plant lik protist cus of chlorolphly but your question is asking about animal like so the eyespot function as a light shield which allows light from a certain direction to strike the light detector.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello there, I can help you with this question. The thing to remember about classification is that it is based on the things that SEPARATE species from each other, NOT what they have in common. Like @summerforever21 said above, this organism acts like a plant but has animal qualities. SO the only answer that would make scientific sense would be one that eliminates animal-specific and plant-specific qualities (in this case, chlorophyll and eyespots). Does this help you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heres a diagram of a Euglena look and see for yourself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look you guys I'm really slow on biology so could you just say a b c or d?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We are not allowed to give just answers, I am sorry. It is part of the OpenStudy Code of Conduct. We are trying to explain it in the best way we can.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the code of conduct says we are only aloud to help you not give you awnswer, read it and see for yourself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok then explain it more clearly please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you reread the information that summer and I gave you, you should be able to hit the answer; do you have a guess at all?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that your final answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yes is it the right one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it is! Great work. :) Do you feel like you understand this a little better now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good job :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just I little it was a half way guess and a half way getting it lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, yeah. but good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey, sometimes the learning process can be like that. I am glad to help; and thank you too summer! :)
