What does the poem Chapter Heading by Ernest Hemingway mean?
it could mean a few things , the thing i thought of was.: For we have thought the longer thoughts And gone the shorter way. = Wanted to go farther or didnt make it quiet like he thought, so took the next option in life(the shorter way) And we have danced to devils' tunes, Shivering home to pray; = Done evil deeds and was ashmed then made it back home to hope for forgiveness in god, or that something out there wouldnt get them back or they would not get in trouble. To serve one master in the night, Another in the day. = maybe was a servent. or maybe a master in the ngiht was refferded to god, and the one in the day was an addiction, or something happend as a child when they had to serve or act a certain way because of abbusive parents. Source(s): my thoughts.
