How touch Screens are made..? Can we make our-self a touch Screen....?

I took an electronic packaging course which talked about them only very briefly, there are basically layers of screens laid on top of each other and it is able to detect a certain heat range or texture, pretty cool things, there are a bunch of different types I know though.
