Find the coordinates for the midpoint of the segment with endpoints given. (10, 6) and (-4, 8)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to find the x coordinate of the midpoint, you add up the x coordinates 10 and -4 to get 10 + (-4) = 6 then you cut this in half to get 6/2 = 3 So the x coordinate of the midpoint is 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x + x _{1})/2 , (y + y _{1})/2\] this formula will help you solve this

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the y coordinate of the midpoint is found the same way (just use the y coordinates this time)

thank you!!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's (3,7)?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're a total midpoint pro
