Which statement about a kite and trapezoid is true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A trapezoid is similar to a kite because both have diagonals which bisect each other at 90°. Both are parallelograms because their opposite sides are congruent. A trapezoid is different from a kite because it does not have two pairs of non parallel opposite sides. Both are parallelograms because they have four sides and their diagonals are equal in length.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Both are parallelograms because their opposite sides are congruent. is false because a trapezoid is not a parallelogram (only one set of sides are parallel)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what else can you eliminate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jim_thompson5910 " Both are parallelograms because they have four sides and their diagonals are equal in length." ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep that can be eliminated as well

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

A trapezoid is similar to a kite because both have diagonals which bisect each other at 90°. is partially true: a kite does have diagonals which intersect at 90 degrees...but a trapezoid does not

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so A is false

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh actually A is completely false because a kite only has one diagonal that is cut in half

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's "A trapezoid is different from a kite because it does not have two pairs of non parallel opposite sides"?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's the only thing left, so that sounds like the answer

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's not the best answer in my opinion because it's a bit vague, but oh well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!!! :)
