Ashok starts to walk from the point P. He went 10 km towards North and 6 km toward South. After this he went 3 km towards East. How far is he now from P?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Consider the starting point to be (0,0). 10km north puts him at (0,10). 6 km south puts him at (0,4). 3 km east puts him at (3,4). Now use the distance formula to find the distance between the starting point of (0,0) and the ending point of (3,4): \[d = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}\]
