@whpalmer4 pls help
is it b y= 2/3 x +1
well, the y-intercept is at (0,1) and the equation you gave has b = 1 which is the y-value of the y-intercept, so far so good. is the slope correct? our y-value decreases as x increases. what does that imply about the slope (which is the coefficient of x in the equation)
I got it. Its D correct?
why don't you try answering my question first :-)
I re did the math and got y= -3/2 + 1 the slope goes down. Thank you!!
oh, you're getting warmer, but that's still not correct.
the definition of slope is rise over run. look at (-3,3) to (0,1) — the y value decreases by 2 while the x value increases by 3. that means the slope is -2/3.
if |slope| > 1 then the line either rises or falls more than 1 unit per unit moved along the x-axis. This line takes more than 1 unit along the x-axis to drop 1 unit, so the absolute value of the slope must be < 1.
its y= -2/3 +1
y = -2x/3 + 1 check by plugging in 0 for x and y y = -2(0)/3 + 1 = 1 this line goes through (0,1)? yes 0 = -2x/3 + 1 -1 = -2x/3 -3 = -2x x = 3/2 this line goes through (3/2,0)? yes, looks like it
it's really worth doing enough of these at once so that this becomes second nature to you, because you'll use this skill very often in the coming years
thanks
