in which quadrants could a point be located if its coordinates are reciprocal of each other?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Hint: if its coordinates are reciprocal of each other, then y = 1/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not understand wouldn't it be quadrants 2 and 4?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

In qudrant 2, x is negative, y is positive. Hmm they have opposite signs. In order for the x coordinate to be the reciprocal of the y coordinate, they need to have the same sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its quadrants 1 and 3?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

yes :)
