You have to solve it by elimination method???

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

4x - 2y = 16 x + 3y = - 3 -->(-4)x + 3y = - 3 -------------- 4x - 2y = 16 -4x - 12y = 12 (result of multiplying by -4) --------------add 0 - 14y = 28 -14y = 28 y = 28/-14 y = - 2 now sub -2 in for y in either of the original equations x + 3y = -3 x + 3(-2) = -3 x - 6 = -3 x = -3 + 6 x = 3 lets check... 4x - 2y = 16 4(3) - 2(-2) = 16 12 + 4 = 16 16 = 16 (correct) ANSWER : x = 3 and y = -2 or (3,-2)
