When the forefathers of Boston settled the land, before building any other structures they built the first burial-ground and the first jail. What does this symbolize about the nature of the new colonist?
Symbolize? your teacher is a dud. The forefathers of boston eh? 1. Got off the boat already half dead. Went straight to "building" a burial ground which in those days consisted of a shallow pit and likely some wood to mark the spot. No building involved. 2. Then someone got sick of starving to death so they robbed and or killed another white settler. Thus the first jail was born which likely consisted of a noose. Your teacher is filling your head full of nonsense.
Let me bit more constructive. I would try to ask your teacher if they believe these statements to be accurate. If so (or if they try to turn sideways on the point) I would ask whether they believe it to be acceptable to slant and misrepresent the reality of our nations beginnings in order to perpetuate acceptance of this kind of fairy tale heroism. It's kinda disgusting to me that someone has you wasting your time thinking about these subjects in this type of light.
