One method used by Canada to finance the war effort was victory bonds. Victory/War bonds were bought by citizens and were basically a loan for the government. Years later, the government promised to pay Canadians back double what they bought in Victory/War Loans. For example, if a citizen bought a Victory/War bond for $25, after the war was over, they could cash these bonds in for $50. The government often used propaganda to sell these bonds, like in this poster: http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/en/explore/online/posters/pics/16354_stick_it_canada_770.jpg If you need any other methods, they also used rationing at home to control the expense of the war effort. Hope this helped!
