When r is close to -1, it indicates a weak negative correlation. True or false?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

close to -1, means its a strong negative correlation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

http://www.mathsisfun.com/data/correlation.html you tell me why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok thanks :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

1 or -1 just tell us that correlation exists and its strong

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

when u take a survey or something, all ur data points show a pattern, when correlation exists.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

if there is no correlation, then the data points wud be scattered all over, and we say "no correlation", and represent it using 0.
