hey,
i wanna be a writer but not sure how to get started...any ideas?

To being a writer, the first thing that you need to do is be creative. The reason is because if you are being creative than you can create a good story. Writers have to collect ideas to start their stories. Many start from their personal experiences, like Patricia Pollaco.

If someone is not creative, he/she can still write novels, the best thing to do is write something that had occurred or experienced in your life. You can turn it into a dramatic idea and perhaps, it may become unique. There’s one thing on how to be unique, if you know who was Stevie Smith, she was a writer during the modernism era and she tried her best not to read other famous author's work so she can't be influenced by them. Reading other people’s work can influence your ideas and the style of writing you have, the best thing to do to be unique is to use your own style of writing. You can still read books on famous authors but still, don’t get influenced by them cuz they might change your creativity.

Learn the rules of English excellently. Breaking the rules with intent and forethought is fine. See Tom Sawyer for a collection of masterful rule breaking. However, every rule was broken by intent. Doing so out of ignorance makes it so that your writing can never be wonderful and elegant if needed.

Next, start writing. Write on anything. Keep a journal or a blog. Perfect your descriptions of the types of things you wish to write on.

Third, finish your writings. Even if it gets hard, id you never finish, there is nothing to sell or present! You must complete projects.

As you practice these things, get to know the writer's market. Find out what you like and what sells. Then fine tune your skills to where you want to go in the grand scheme of it all.

Take a journal with you and write everything! Write a story about the man across from you in the coffee shop, do a whole page essay describing something as simple as the table surface, write about your thought process.
