What is the surface area of the composite figure? (Use 3.14 for π.) pic in comments

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if you look at the picture, it really is a half-sphere on top of a cylinder so, the Area of a sphere is = \(\large 4\pi r^2\) the area of a cylinder will be \(\large 2\pi r(h+r)\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so your total area will be half of the sphere's total area that is \(\cfrac{4\pi r^2}{2} \implies 2\pi 8^2\) PLUS the cylinder's \(2\pi 8(7+8)\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

.... MINUS \(2\pi r\ because above is really adding 2 circles of the cylinder, and you'd be adding only 1, I just noticed

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

that is ... MINUS \(2\pi r\)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\large 2\pi 8^2+2\pi (8)(7)+\pi 8^2\) there, that much
