OpenStudy (mackenzie2013):

Which of the following is a solution for x/4 > 10? x= 40 x= 37 x= 29 x= 47

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what do you get when you isolate x in x/4 > 10

OpenStudy (mackenzie2013):

Wouldnt it be 40?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you multiplied both sides by 4, you get x/4 > 10 4*x/4 > 4*10 x > 40

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

any solution to x > 40 is any number larger than 40

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so x = 29 is NOT a solution to x > 40 since 29 is NOT larger than 40

OpenStudy (mackenzie2013):

Thanks for explaining .
