Lenny’s favorite radio station has this schedule: news: 15 min. commercials: 3 min. music: 42 min. If Lenny chooses a time of day at random to turn on the radio to his favorite station, what is the probability that the news will be on?

The total time here is 42+3+15 minutes, or 60 minutes. So, for every 60 minutes, there are 42 minutes of music, 3 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of news. So, to find the probability of the news being on, we divide the time the news is on by the total time: \[15 \min/60 \min = 25percent\]
