is the sequence 4, 6, 10, 18, … arithmetic, geometric, or neither. and what is the next two terms?

thomaster (thomaster):

+2 +4 +8 +?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

+ 16? + 32? so 34 and 66, right?

thomaster (thomaster):

Yes :) would that be arithmetic or geometric?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure about that, how can I tell?

thomaster (thomaster):

An arithmetic sequence goes from one term to the next by always adding (or subtracting) the same value. A geometric sequence goes from one term to the next by always multiplying (or dividing) by the same value

thomaster (thomaster):

no you don't add the same value every time You multiply the number you add by 2 every time, so its geometric

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I misread what you said, I see now. Thank you very much.

thomaster (thomaster):

you're welcome :)
