the level of water in a rectangular swimming pool needs to be lowered 6.00 inches if the pool is 35 feet long and 16 feet wide and the water is siphoned out at a rate of 5.23 gal/min how many hours will the siphoning take
Well, first thing you need to know is the volume of a gallon of water in cubic inches. Fortunately, WolframAlpha knows all that sort of stuff: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=volume+of+1+gallon+of+water We have a rectangular prism which is 6.00 inches by 35 feet by 16 feet. We need to find the volume of that in cubic inches, then convert that volume to gallons, and finally divide that number of gallons by 5.23 gal/min to find out how many minutes it will take to drain away the water. All we have to do after that is convert the number of minutes to hours. Why don't you do that and post your answer for me to check. Or if you get stuck, post what you've gotten done and we'll work from there.
Thanks that helped ill work on it
