I am buying a sounding device to deter my cat from entering an area it sounds at a 80 inch arc...I have no idea what that means, any help with this would be sincerely appreciated. Diane

I'm assuming that "80 in. arc" means "arc of radius 80 in." This means (in theory) that the product has an effective range of 80 inches; Theoretically, your cat shouldn't want to ever be within 80 inches of this product. But if this is in real life, then there's no way of determining the effectiveness of this product. The product may not be loud enough to actually deter your feline at all! For example, has there ever been a noise so annoying that it actually prevented you from approaching it? Also, some variables can change the effectiveness of this kitty noisemaker: other sources of sound and walls can dampen or even drown out the noise made by this product, rendering it useless.
