Fun Land theme park has a total of 80 males and females who are employed at the park. If the number of males is 20 more than twice the number of females, how many males are employed at the park?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lets let x=number of males. We know that the number of females, then, is 80-x, since there are 80 total. Now, we know that the number of males is 20 more than twice the number of females, so: \[x=2(80-x) +20\] After distributing we have: \[x=160-2x+20\] Combine like terms and simplify and we find that: \[3x=180\] So: \[x=60 males\]
