OpenStudy (paradise):

Which of the following functions increases, going upwards from left to right on a graph? A. y = 2(1/3)x B. y = -2(3)x C. y = 2x + 6 D. y = 3(1/2)x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm assuming these are exponential equations right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

or is that assumption way off?

OpenStudy (paradise):

Exponential Growth and Decay

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok thanks

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

first off, B is negative so that's out because that function is decreasing over its entire domain

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

A and D have bases that are smaller than 1 (1/3 is smaller than 1, so is 1/2) so this means you'll have exponential decay and that also means you have a decreasing function

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so A and D are out as well

OpenStudy (paradise):

Okay

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

make sense?

OpenStudy (paradise):

yeah it does now

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok great
