how would i set up an equation for this question?If a salesman earned a 6% commission on sales, and in one week he earned $300 in commissions, how much merchandise did he sell that week?

.06 is decimal form for 6% .06x = 300 It is asking what 6% of x = 300 so now, to find x you just divide by .06 Does that help ?

let me explain....on commission, you don't get paid a salary,you get paid by what you sell. In this problem, he makes 6% of what he sells. He made 300. So 6% of what equals 300. ..06x = 300 x = 300/.06 x = 5000.....you got it
