The parabola is the graph of which function? Use what you know about the parabola and vertex to help you decide. (image attached)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. y = x2 + 2x + 5 B. y = x2 - 2x - 5 C. y = -x2 + 2x + 5 D. y = -x2 - 2x + 5

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well it's an upward parabola so that means the x^2 term is positive, eliminating half he choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can also plug these into a graphing utility (TI-84) and match them up. Just match the window to the graph.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Vertex is at (1,-6) so parabola must have a -6 in eq.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Well plug in to the remaining two equations and find which one has a min of (1. -6)

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

*1 into

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait whattt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Luigi0210 is saying to graph the problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont have time i have 45 more questions that i need to finish in less than 30 mins

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Bummer. Are you using us to get answers for a test?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

I'm not saying graph it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, homework, and I'm not "trying to get answers" i got stuck on one question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"timed" homework is questionable...Good luck with that

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Plug (1,-6) into the remaining answers . If you get nonsense like 2=3, that equation is not the right one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well last night i had no time to get my homework done considering i was at the hospital with my grandmother all night, i slept late and have 30 mins to finish my homework and get to school but thanks for that @Mike546

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

You can argue with us, or you can do the problem, your call :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm im just gonna guess and pray that its right i guess.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

1*1+2*1+5=4 not A 1*1-2*1-5=-6 gee, that's the answer! B Was that so hard?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, thanks

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Hope your grandma gets better!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!
